Mädchen on Flickr

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

It’s really wonderful when you rediscover a website, blog, or photos of someone’s work that inspires you.  Today I’m rediscovering Mädchen’s flickr photos.  I love the simple, everyday shots we all can relate to (and makes me wonder how much I overlook for finding the beauty within them).

Flickr Finds ~Nickolas Muray

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Browsing through photos on Flickr, I came across this set of photos by Nickolas Muray.  Muray is considered to be the master of the three-color carbro process and I love the rich, oversaturated colors of these images.  I have a love for music, movies, fashion, and culture from the 1930′s-1950′s and these photos are just the right amount of classy and kitsch.  I think I’d love to be that model with the cats all over her… lol.

Such a gorgeous collection of photos from stephaniecb (little birds) on Flickr called outside.  Makes me yearn to go camping for a week or stay in a little cottage in the woods.

Flickr Finds ~ Lost in the Shelves

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Upon checking out Flickr today, I happened to glance at their blog and noticed the incredible photos of libraries and bookstores from around the world.  I am totally in love with that staircase from the bookstore in Portugal in the first photo.

Flickr Finds ~ Winter

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

These winter shots by bloom-grow-love are really speaking to me today.  I love their color palette, and the quietness they convey.  It makes me think of walking through my backyard on a winter’s night and remaining still, just listening to the quietness that always follows after a snowstorm.

Flickr Finds ~ A Thing for Horses

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

I haven’t written a Flickr Finds post in quite some time and Mrs. French’s set, “A Thing for Horses” is really beautiful.  I was never one of those “horse girls” growing up… you know the ones that had horse posters and toys, dreamed of taking riding lessons, and was caught up in the story of Black Beauty.  However, I’ve always been drawn to horses, perhaps because my grandfather grew up on a farm where his father broke in horses (among other things) for a living.  I love the calmness and stature of a horse in a field, content to simply roam and graze.  I slow down when I drive past a farm and am the first to point out in exclamation, “Look! Horses!” and wish I could pull over and go talk to them.  I love how their eyes always seem so expressive, and in a way seem to connect with you on an unspoken level of communication.  In these photos, I love how close she gets to the horses; how much their eyes are really the subject of the images rather than the overall animal.

On second thought, maybe I’m really a horse girl after all…
