This gorgeous cloche is making me so excited for spring! It could also be the weekly blizzards, nor’easters, and storms that keep dumping snow on us… so this looks very tempting to purchase indeed!

We stayed in Vermont for our 5 year anniversary (as a couple, not being married) and 5 years later, we returned. It better not be another 5 years before we go back again! This was our only Christmas gift to each other this past holiday: a quick getaway somewhere in New England during the winter and this place was absolutely perfect. As much as I love B&B’s, I really wanted to go away and be completely alone: alone with my husband and alone in the woods. We both needed major “downtime” and we definitely were able to do just that. We brought all our own food and cooked all our meals, read books and magazines, rested and slept in, watched movies, relaxed and sat around listening to music, and I even worked a little (yes, it’s crazy but I was desperate for no wifi and no distractions to get some work done!). It was heaven on earth and I felt like I was living in White Christmas. It proved to be too cold for us to really venture out (we had plans to try snowshoeing), but I just couldn’t get past the subzero temperatures. Now I can say I really know what -15 F feels like! Thankfully, our cozy little log cabin was warm and comfortable the entire time. I realized it really is possible to completely, truly relax (even a “type A person” like me can, something I didn’t think possible)… although it all goes away when you get back home. It pains me to think it’s over and past already, I really wish we had spent longer up in our home-away-from-home. I’m so thankful though that we had the chance to go.

I won’t be back in this space till next Wednesday when I return from a few nights away in Vermont with my husband. We decided to forgo Christmas gifts for each other this past holiday and instead do a weekend away together in January or February instead. We found a good deal on a little log cabin and we’re going to squirrel ourselves away in the snow. We might try snowshoeing for the first time, but the weather is suppose to be frigid… On one of the days the high will be -2 F (the low will be -14!) so I’m not sure how much we’ll get out. I’m just so excited to get away from the norm for a few days and sit by a fire!
See you next Wednesday and happy weekend.

Hooray! It took a while but finally found out this afternoon that I won’t be going into work at all. Thank goodness for snow days! I feel like a kid again. I haven’t had a real one in quite some time.
Here’s some images what I woke up to this morning. The woods is absolutely breathtaking after a big snow storm and I love the stillness.

We’re going to be getting a Nor’easter tomorrow with 12-15 inches and 40-60 mph winds and I’m crossing my fingers and toes for a snow day! It would be lovely to stay home with my husband, have a yummy breakfast, stay in my pj’s all day, go for a walk in the new snow, and get some work done. Praying to the snow day gods…

I cannot get over this amazingly gorgeous and sumptuous apartment in Manhattan (designed by madderlake). Thank you Chelsea for the post! What an incredible home to live in, to be surrounded by sunlight and fauna everywhere. I’m sure having windows everywhere isn’t the most practical thing for energy savings, but how incredible is that space? I could do so much daydreaming in that space…

These holiday cards by Jordan Ferney are extremely beautiful. The watercolors and letterpress truly compliment each other. What a lovely and memorable holiday card.

Sorry for the extra day of absence from Monday, but I had a good reason… we got 2 feet of snow from a blizzard! The winds were incredibly strong and made large snow drifts and patterns in the snow. Today was a much nicer day with a clear blue sky and bright sun (although still chilly and windy), but I was able to get out and take some nice photos.

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas if you celebrated it!

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

I’m going to take the next few days off to spend time with family: baking cookies, having a family dinner and making a roast beef, wrapping presents, watching Christmas movies, and just relaxing, laughing and enjoying life. I’ll also be enjoying some of the snow that fell this week, giving us a real White Christmas.
If you’re celebrating, I hope you have a magical Christmas holiday with your loved ones!
Best wishes,
Colleen

Most of November so far has been pretty bleak: grey skies, chilly and cold, sometimes rainy for days on end, and for me personally very difficult. Hoping December’s Christmas celebrations add a little more color and happiness… when things are hard, the weather always seems to make them feel doubly so.
